Few people in the music industry have had a better year than Chance the Rapper. The 23-year old Chicago rapper released his third official mixtape Coloring Book in May to universally acclaimed reception. The popularity of Coloring Book even got the attention of the Grammy Awards.

Due to Chance and his penchant for free releases, the Grammys decided in 2017 that free music released exclusively to streaming service is eligible to be nominated and win Grammys. Chance is currently nominated for fiveGrammys: one for Best Rap Album, one for Best Rap/Sung Performance for his feature on Kanye West’s “Ultralight Beam,” Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. He also appeared on Saturday Night Live on December 17th, as well as being featured throughout the year at award shows and in commercials. Not satisfied with all these accolades, Chance decided to release another free mixtape on December 21st.

The mixtape is titled Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama and is a collaborative release between Chance and R&B singer Jeremih. The two previously made magic on “Summer Friends” on Coloring Book and their chemistry can’t be denied throughout the surprise Christmas release. It’s a perfect way for Chance to wrap up the year he became one of rap’s biggest names and a nice Christmas present for all of his fans.
